Meet One Of Our Super Sponsors
We are happy to spotlight Sean Ryan, MSPT, owner of +e Physical Therapy | Sports Performance in Redondo Beach. We are fortunate to have him and his team take care of our race participants each year at the expo!
Our Q + A With Sean
Please tell us how you got your start in physical therapy.
I was introduced to physical therapy in 1991 as a high school student after fracturing my leg. In 2011, following my education and employment as a Physical Therapist, I decided on pursing my own practice looking for a lifestyle that afforded me greater flexibility. I believed that by being my own boss I could establish a business model that I believed in and that supported the lifestyle I wanted for my family.
What sets you apart in your industry?
There are two things we do differently at Positive Energy.
We offer more time at each appointment with your physical therapist.
We use video analysis to help understand your overuse problem and direct you to a strategy that lessens the cumulative trauma.
You were born and raised in Manhattan Beach. What’s it like growing up in the South Bay?
Probably similar to what it is today – I was exposed to an active beach lifestyle. So, the beach was the same, the sports were competitive, the Mexican food was the best, lots of folks ran and walked on The Strand, the weather was gloomy at the start of the summer and the 4th of July was a big party. The greatest difference I see is simply the density of things; more house, more shops, more restaurants and more choices.
How long have you been a sponsor of the Manhattan Beach 10k?
Positive Energy has sponsored since 2011.
How did you first get involved with the race?
My first memory was as a participant in 1985. Both my parents participated for 40 years and volunteered on the committee for many years. The MB Hometown 10k has been a part of my life and my families’ since the inception.
What can participants expect to see at your booth this year?
We give away yummy food samples and educational tools about running injuries. We offer a photo booth to capture your memories. We raffle off a pair a running shoes from Village Runner. We have a limited number of medals for youth finishers.
What do you most love about the race?
There are 3 things I really like about the race.
The organization and management of the event. The “Hometown” event has preserved that feeling by keeping it run by volunteers, it does not feel corporate.
The course – point to point and still spectator friendly finishing at the beach.
The Saturday morning start, which kicks off a festive weekend in MB.
